Healing Power of Animals : Talk w/ a Tail

LuRain Penny is a singer, songwriter & philospher.

Most of her life was spent without the company of animals.

Coming in close contact brought her a new understanding of their loving nature.

In this short interview with her friend and artist, aza cody, Miss Penny discusses two tender life changing relationships with furry fellows.

“Very Moving. Remarkably Human.” @BillNigh

We appreciate your comments!

My Travel Kitty

my-travel-kitty-by-codifyer

Indigo adopted us 10 yrs ago when our big Lab Cody passed away.

He had been abandoned for some time before because we’d seen him out and about in our neighborhood.

He waited on our back porch for months while we grieved, we never noticed him.

Then one day, driving around the back, I saw him. Sitting hunchy on the step.

He looked so sad.

A few minutes later on my journey, I saw a homeless man, sitting in a bus shelter.

The first thought to occur was – He reminds me of the kitty!

Cat food was bought that very day.

The process of introducing him into our household ( as a temporary visitor at first ) was begun.

LuRain was terrified of him.

She was quite put out over his intrusion into her bereavement.

But that’s another story….

He is the Love of my Life, a brave and amazing little Man.

Thanks,

aza

We Don’t Care To Be Parted: My Family

merry-christmas-from-codifyer

My Family is unique.

We chose each other.

LuRain Penny ( on your left ) has been with me since the day we met in the 80’s.

She is a Singer, Songwriter and Philospher.

Her words are those I Live by.

Getting very old, unless she’s mistaken.

She’s not always on the Planet.

please-donut-disturb by codifyer

We’re still working on her autobiography, Maintenance Drinker in the New Age.

Her memory has become untrustworthy so she’s decided to “just make it up as we go along.”

Most of her time nowadays is spent sleeping with Indigo Kitty aka Capt. Black, Adventure Cat.

My Boy stalked us soon after we lost Cody, our big Lab.

He is the Love of my Life.

And I’m a Dog guy.

We live in pastoral simplicity between Mountain and Sea.

Lucky, huh?

Self-publishing Pirate.KittyCat.Toon

PK page 1

Pirate.KittyCat.Toon™ is finally completed as a book.

It evolved from idea through the images, to the music video, & finally to text.

Not the unusual manner of approach to be sure.

Projects unfold on their own, when given the freedom to do so.

Art is Magic.

PK page 22

Now what? I have orders for copies & am faced with all the options out there for publishing.

My research into this actually has raised more questions & concerns than I thought possible.

Print on Demand or print on my own & sell it from the back of  my truck?

E-book or hard copy.

Book Shepard or Agent?

Over the next few weeks, I’ll blog about the process of getting a book published, out & sold in this economy.

With the trend towards ‘virtual’ publishing,  what are the pitfalls of signing away first rights to an on-line producer?

Are actual books worth the trouble & effort of producing?

What kind of royalties can be expected; from POD sales, from downloads?

Are there difficulties in maintaining color integrity for artwork when every printer & device reads colors differently?

When one can’t afford an IT attorney, what measures can be taken by the author to protect the product & their rights?

PK page 17

I invite input from other bloggers on this subject.

Leave comments here or message me & I’ll interview you via email.

Also I’ll ask some of my LinkedIn connections for their info & advice to help encourage anyone who is involved, as I am, in bringing their book to readers, through the exploration of novel ways to print, promote & publish.

I’ve been over-whelmed by the response to my project.

Thank all of you who have expressed your enthusiasm.

It has kept me going.

As my old friend LuRain Penny tells me;

“Don’t just think outside the Box, use it for kindling!”

Cheers,

Pirate KittyCatToons in Partnership w/ Home For Life Sanctuary

Thanks for all the support and encouragement for the Pirate KittyCat Toon™ project!

LuRain Reads Pirate Kitty is getting hit on youtube.

A wonderful review of the work by Cathryn Wellner just came out.

Indigo Black :: Adventure Cat has his own Facebook page.

And orders for the book are coming in!

This presents a challenge in self publishing which I will be detailing in the next blog.

In an effort to raise awareness of the project & generate income, I’m selling my art & products through theCodifyerGallery  & from me directly.

As always, I welcome any insight or advice on the subject of publishing & will pass it on through the network.

The Pirate.KittyCat.Toon Store donates 10% of royalties on sale to Home For Life®  in Minnesota to the end of 2012!

This wonderful organization provides a true home for life for pets whose age or physical condition makes them otherwise ‘un-adoptable’.

From their website:

Home For Life® is an expression of a new kind of animal shelter—the long-term animal sanctuary. We provide animals with loving care, a nurturing environment that is safe and stable, a place to belong. We provide lifetime care for cats and dogs with special needs who cannot find a home, but who can still lead a quality life. Most shelters offer two options for animals: adoption or euthanasia. A typical family home is not appropriate for every animal.

Those who are old, or who have disabilities, health or temperament problems may do better in another setting. Home For Life® believes that these special animals deserve an alternative that will meet their needs. Hence, we created “The Third Door” animal rescue and welfare program where special animals have an option previously unavailable. The Home for Life® animals enjoy a quality life, where they can be themselves, run and play, and be loved and cherished for as long as they live. The Third Door™ program provides an animal rescue option for such special animals.

Through their various community out-reach programs, “HFL touches people of all ages through our innovative community outreach programs and the client organizations we serve. Animals that were once rejected and neglected are given a second chance at our sanctuary, and then, with faith in life restored; give back through their participation in the Pet Peace Corps.”

I am proud that the LuRain Reads Pirate Kitty has been chosen as  part of the HFL Peace Creatures® A collaborative program with the Tubman Family Alliance of the Twin Cities and the Women of Nations Shelter in St. Paul, MN, the Peace Creatures® project uses volunteers, staff and animals from the sanctuary to teach peaceful conflict resolution to families impacted by domestic violence. This is truly an honor & exactly the use to which I hoped this project would be put; teaching empathy through Art.

Support the Artist & HFL – please pass along our links & consider us for your gifts this Holiday.

Thanks to all who have encouraged this project.

Cheers!

LuRain Penny Reads Pirate.KittyCat.Toon by Codifyer

LuRain Penny reads Pirate.KittyCat.Toon!™

This is the next step in mounting the book for sale.

Hope you get a chance to look, like & leave a comment.

When Miss Penny first met Indigo Black she wasn’t sure she was going to like him.

Only a short time before, our beloved dog Cody passed from us, leaving an empty hole in our home & our lives.

Indigo hung out on the back porch for months until we noticed.

His loneliness touched my Heart so I invited him in.

Miss Penny was not ready to love another animal. Her feelings for Cody were so profound she was resentful of the cat.

In her own words, “I was skeered of him at first. Teeth like bone needles!”

But he soon won her over with his gentleness, humor & his Love.

*

Plans are in the works to send Miss Penny into schools & libraries to read Pirate Kitty to kids & share an interactive discussion on kindness & caring.

“We must reach the children if we want to create a Better World. They are the future.”

*

In Other News:

A percentage of royalties from sales at the Pirate.KittyCat.Toon Store will be donated to The Home For Life Sanctuary in Wisconsin. This wonderful organization takes care of otherwise unadoptable pets & deserves recognition & support.

More about them in the next blog.

*

Thank you for your encouragement of this project.

Happy Hols!
